OUT HERE

About OUT HERE
OUT HERE is a documentary short that chronicles the poignant quest of a Sacramento social worker on the front lines of the homelessness crisis who attempts to help unhoused individuals through empathy and interpersonal connection. It evolved from the production of the full-length documentary, NO HOME HERE, which provides perspective on homelessness while following a diverse set of impacted characters. While working toward funding the more ambitious project, our team consolidated resources and highlighted the social worker’s journey via this shorter production.
Location
The film is centered in Sacramento, and its neighboring city West Sacramento, the capital city of the state that holds the most wealth and has the most people living in poverty than anywhere in the country. OUT HERE uses Sacramento as a microcosm to tell a larger story that plays out across the United States.

OUT HERE portrays Sacramento as a city that is on the cutting edge of trying to solve the homelessness problem. The film displays the beauty and captivating bustle of Sacramento by showing the city’s landmarks, public art, murals and everyday comings and goings. We hope to provide free screenings throughout the city, displaying the film to Sacramento social-service, medical and educational institutions, and to the California State legislature.
WHY ThIS FILM IS IMPORTANT:
The OUT HERE team is committed to developing films that portray homelessness honestly. We hope that after watching OUT HERE viewers will be armed with a deeper understanding of the problem, as well as the challenges that go with trying to solve homelessness. Above all, we hope our film will serve as a critical call to action to advance the conversation around this complex problem.
